Japanese Civilization Institute 2016 5th Symposium

“Globalization and modern state”
The path that Japan should follow, taking into consideration the U.K. leaving the European Union and the upcoming U.S. presidential election

From a long time ago, Japan has responded flexibly and consistently to the pressure and change of the outside world and persisting and making progress along the way.
With the U.K. leaving the European Union, and with the U.S. presidential election coming up in November this year, we take this as a good opportunity to think about the effect these events might have on Japan, and to discuss from various angles, as to which way Japan should pave its way from here onwards.

Kent Gilbert (U.S. California lawyer, TV personality)

Ruri Miura (Political scientist, Policy Alternatives Research Institute of the Univ. of Tokyo)
